Sandstone

SANDSTONE is the natural stone of a sedimentary origin, consisting in basic from the particles of quartz which communicate among themselves by means of other minerals, such, as silica and a carbonate. On mineral structure and physicomechanical properties- SANDSTONES can be almost like a granite and quartzite. Very much frequently SANDSTONE contains iron ores, which give to it attractive painting. Color of SANDSTONES can be from tan, white (light grey), beige, yellow to red, brown and even green and light blue. This type of a stone is very durable, since its structure includes quartzite. SANDSTONE is a stone basically average hardness though there are its very dense versions which are not conceding on hardness of granite . Strength at compression - 300-2000 kg / sm2, porosity of 0,69-6,70 %, water absorption of 0,63-6,0 %.

On the prevailing size of grains SANDSTONE, as well as sand, are shared on fine-grained (from 0,1-0,25 mm), medium-grained (0,25-0,5 mm), coarse-grained (0,5 mm), and on mineralogical structure - mono and polymineral quartz, arkosic sandstones and graywackle. SANDSTONES still name PSAMMITE.

The highest physicomechanical properties of SANDSTONE with siliceous and carbonatecementing substance has, the worse - with clay. Fire resistance of sandstone can be before 1700 °С - is characteristic for pure quartz sandstones, with siliceous cement.

Examples of application in exterior: masonry, facing of facades, fences, paving of paths and terraces, landscaping. In an interior it is use for facing: steps, fireplaces, floor and walls.
