SLATES- stones sedimentary-metamorphic and metamorphic origins. Are characterized by almost parallel arrangement of the extended their structure extended or lamellar minerals included in their structure and possessing ability to break up on thin a plate. Two primary groups of SLATES are allocated: poorly metamorphic - clay slates and it is deep metamorphic - crystal slates.

Clay will consist predominary of clay minerals and micas. Among crystal, on structure of minerals included in them (micas, amphibolic, feldspar) allocate quartz mica (biotite, muscovite); at increase in the maintenance in them feldspar and quartz, they pass in GNEISSES and AMPHIBOL. Sometimes crystal SLATES carry the name on a mineral included in their structure (garnet, staurolite).

Intermediate position between clay and crystal SLATES occupy PHYLLITES - the rocks subjected metamorphic in conditions, green-slate phase on rather small depths; in their structure, except for mica, many green - color minerals (peach, epidote and various amphibol). Green slates are formed of sedimentary and volcanic breeds.

The clay SLATES possessing perfect fissility, are used a roofing and slate material. Development of roofing SLATE is conducted both open (large career), and underground by ways. Blocks or slabs act in sawing up and splittiingon tiles thickness about 0,5-1 cm which are used for roofand facings of buildings.

Practically all firm kinds of SLATES are used a finishing material for exteriors and interiors, seldom for paving.
